University of Queensland鈥檚 Associate Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics, Judy Bauer, has been awarded the prestigious Fellow of Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) status.
Associate Professor Bauer was presented the award at the DAA Annual General Meeting in Sydney recently, making her the 7th Fellow to be appointed from the Association鈥檚 4800 members.
Best known for her work in cancer nutrition and malnutrition, Associate Professor Bauer has been involved in developing evidence-based practice guidelines for dietitians in the nutritional management of cachexia, radiation therapy, malnutrition and most recently head and neck cancer.

鈥淪he is a worthy appointment as a Fellow of DAA, which is the top honour of our Association,鈥� Julie Dundon said.
鈥淚 am very honoured to receive the Fellow credential from the DAA and would like to acknowledge the contribution of many colleagues who continue to provide inspiration and support,鈥� Associate Professor Bauer said.
A 国产探花 science graduate gained her PhD in 2003. She has published more than 70 scientific papers, two book chapters and has mentored other dietitians, including six students who have since completed their PhD. As a principal/co-investigator she has attracted over S2.3M in competitive grant funding in the past 10 years.
Associate Professor Bauer has been a member of DAA since 1984 and has served on the DAA Board from 1989-1992 and again from 2004-2009. She is currently Supplement Editor of Nutrition & Dietetics, the scientific journal of the DAA and Dietitians New Zealand.
She is also a member of the Australian Dietetic Council, which accredits nutrition and dietetics university courses in Australia, and a member of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Council.
She was the first allied health professional in Queensland to be awarded a Smart State Fellowship in 2005, and awarded an Outstanding Contribution award by DAA in 2007.
Together with her colleagues, Associate Professor Bauer received the Association鈥檚 2009 Presidents Award for Innovation for the groundbreaking screening tool she developed to help identify people with malnutrition or at risk of malnutrition.
